All built with the exception of my GPU. Should be here Friday. Until then I have a very pretty but useless box.
Just waiting for my 2070 to arrive Friday or Saturday and then it’s full speed ahead to max settings DiRT Rally.

I’m not sure if you realize , but the memory lacks RGB

I love building computers, but I can't justify doing it more than once every 5 years.

Seems like pretty solid choices.

I build 2-3 a week at work but I’m with you in not wanting to build a personal rig more than every 5 years or so. This machine is overkill specifically so I don’t have to upgrade it beyond GPU swaps.

Overkill was the name of the game here. I don’t want to be swapping CPU and motherboard for a long time.

Damnit, I forgot the RGB fans too!

This was the plan for mine as well, and what do you know I’ve had it for almost 3 years now and am still using the on-board graphics from the 7700K. One of these days I’ll get an actual GPU, but for what I do 99.975% of the time th
e
on-board is fine.

No iGPU in the 3900x so while I have the parts to build a system that POSTs I’m not getting any further until I get my GPU.

I built this one right as GPU prices went nuts (early 2017) so I figured I’d wait for them to come down, which just became complacency.

Should do that. Only real long- term concern for me is that I don’t trust those dinky little chipset fans on the X570, seems like they will be a huge pain to replace if they fail or get noisy. I’m completely baffled that only one super expensive motherboard has a passive cooling solution. Hopefully I’m overestimating the likelihood of failure though.

Mine’s 7 years old now (3570K, 16GB) . Have the itch to build but I couldn’t do it. It’s still working perfectly fine.

The CPU fan usually blows through the chipset sinks. If not directly, the indirect will stir up enough turbulence to effect airflow through them.

X570 is a 10W part but only when all PCIe 4 lanes are loaded. I don’t expect the fan on my chipset to ever spin.

Im waiting for my Rx 7500... yep Im building a new PC too! AMD Ryzen 2700x with a RX7500. Almost got the 1060ti, but this RX is faster and only $40 more. Got the same RAM as you, but only 16GB for now. RAM sure is costly.

What kind of monitor is that bad boy gonna run?

Yep, the death of Moore’s Law has really put a damper on things. Between performance improvements, and a bit of increased income I used to be able to roughly double performance every year or so leading to annual builds. Now instead several years pass and I see expensive new parts that will increase my performance by like 30%. My last system lasted 7 years (Sandy Bridge was good stuff), though I did do a video card upgrade in there . My current one probably won’t quite that long as 6c /12t is already feeling a bit weak, but it won’t matter much until more stuff is able to take advantage of many threads, so I’m sure I’m fine for a few more years anyway.

Very nice! I want to build my own soon.

Right now a 1080p monitor with occasional use on my 4K TV. Eventually I am going to upgrade to a 3440x1440 ultra wide monitor.

What kind case is that?

First time I buil t my own PC things were delayed like a week due to delays shipping the then new Voodoo 3. I had to use some ancient VGA adapter instead. I think it was actually a problem with the pack-in software, it was promised to come with Unreal Tournament but that had been delayed, so it ended up shipping with a CD labeled Unreal Tournament that actually just had Unreal on it, and they mailed out the correct disc later.

My CPU came with Borderlands 3 and The Outer Worlds, really looking forward to digging into those. The GPU is coming with the new CoD but I already own that so I’m not sure what I am going to do, I don’t know if the code is transferable.

I just finished The Outer Worlds. I found it pretty enjoyable.

I’m actually considering that or the lian li lancool 2....
Hard choice

I really liked building in this case. Well built, plenty of space, lots of cable management options, built in fan hub, comes with 3x 140mm fans, etc. It also allows for a butt load of water cooling and storage drives for a mid tower.

It’s the same devs as New Vegas. All of their games dating back to the OG Fallouts have always had a unique goofy flair to them.

that makes a lot of sense
